"10 Things About Me"
by Lisa Rumsey Harris
  1. I can balance a spoon on the end of my nose for hours.
  2. I collect ugly sweaters.
  3. I have two current projects in the works: One is baby girl number 3, due in January, and the other is the sequel to The Unlikely Gift of Treasure Blume.
  4. I always knew I wanted to be a writer. When I was seven, I won the young author’s award at my elementary school. Looking back, I realize that my story (all about climate changes masterminded by the devil) was a bit edgy for a second grader. But instead of sending me to the school psychologist, they sent me to a writer’s day camp to meet real authors. Thanks, Mrs. Brim, for giving me that opportunity!
  5. Treasure Blume was born when I had a no good, very bad, horrible day during which I felt like everyone I met hated me. I remember coming home and thinking, “Wow, I’m glad everyday isn’t like today." And then I began to wonder, “But what if it was?”
  6. I teach writing classes at Brigham Young University. And yes, if you are one of my students, you can receive extra credit for wearing ugly sweaters to class.
  7. I recently cried when I heard Katy Perry’s “Baby, You’re a Firework!” on the radio. But I blame it on the pregnancy hormones.
  8. When I was afraid of the dark as a child, my mom told me that Siamese cats eat monsters. Since then, I’ve always owned a Siamese cat.
  9. I can’t wait to start playing Christmas music. My husband forbids it until after Halloween. But come November 1, it’s all Bing Crosby, all the time!
  10. My first job was as a trail guide for Robert Redford’s stables in Sundance, Utah. It meant I got to ride horses every day in stunning mountain scenery, but it also meant I had to muck out 30+ stalls twice a day. I learned a valuable lesson: most amazing experiences are accompanied by manure and hard work.
