Review
This book is comprised of individual accounts of charity between sisters in the gospel. It is such a great example of the amazing gift of service, we, as women, can provide to one another.God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore, it is vital that we serve each other.
-Spencer W. Kimball
When I read the description of this book, I sort of expected accounts of some amazingly huge acts of service. And of course some of them were. But, for the most part, the accounts were of small, seemingly insignificant acts that many women do every day. That is what made them so special. These women were in tune enough with the Spirit to recognize promptings and had the courage to act upon them, even if it didn't fit in with their busy schedules. And even though the acts may have felt small to the women serving, they meant so much to the ones being served.
One thing I noticed was that even though the accounts were personal experiences, they were very well written, It probably helped that many of the experiences were written by authors such as Heather B. Moore, Linda Kay Garner, Haley Hatch Freeman, Deanne Blackhurst, Lori Nawyn, Connie Sokol, Cheri Chesley, Anne Bradshaw, and of course Diony herself (among others). It was amzing to see all these talented women come together and share such personal and powerful experiences. When we have the courage to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, even when we don’t always immediately understand those promptings, we have the opportunity to bless the lives of others and strengthen our own testimonies in the process.
- Debra George Hunsaker
Sisterhood of Strength is a short and easy read that I finished in one afternoon. But even though it is small, it carries a powerful reminder to all of us of the power of service and the strength of sisterhood.
